Strange but true: honest policeman returns N7 million paid into his account in error

 

 

 

In Nigeria where statistics show almost 90 percent of police officers will request a bribe from you before any form of service is rendered, Oyibo Shuaibu, a Superintendent of Police in Akure, the capital city of Ondo State, southwest Nigeria, refunded about N7 million mistakenly paid into his salary account. Shuaibu is the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) in charge of Enuowa Divisional Police station in Ondo town.

He had received a credit alert sent via text message to his mobile phone by Zennith Bank, indicating that N7.2 million was paid into his accounts few minutes after a withdrawal from the same account. Rather than keep the funds, Mr. Oyibo contacted his boss, Sani Magaji, the commissioner of police. His boss contacted the bank and the overpayments was cleared out. Full story at Allafric.com
