These police officers are busy taking bribes, extorting motorists along the Ekiti – Abuja route today

A passenger travelling in an ash-coloured Peugeot 505 GR saloon car is watching from his back-seat position how police officers on roadblocks are forcing  his driver to pay between 50 and 60 naira illegal tolls.

Although almost all the officers, all of them corporals, who were receiving the bribes on behalf of their colleagues, tried to conceal their identities, our reporter managed to catch the names of some of them as shown in the tags  on their breast pockets.Curiously, almost all the bribe receivers are corporals, and are in the habit of quickly shoving the bribe money into their side pockets as soon as the driver squeeze it into their closed fists.

The bribe-giving- and-taking episodes took place at checkpoints manned by fully-armed mobile policemen.

Find below the names of the police officers who were receiving the bribes when our reporter passed by their locations.

Sanda Umar – Otun Ekiti, Ekiti State

Adesina Morufu – Omuooke-ekiti, Ekiti State ( border between Ekiti and Kogi States).

Babatunde Akinola, corporal, outskirt of Iffe-Ijumu,  Kogi State. He tried hard to conceal his identity.

Olatunji Raphael, who rejected 50 naira and extorted 60 naira instead from the driver. His name tag is fading off. His checkpoint is few metres to the Divisional Police Headquarters in Adavi, on the outskirts of Okene.

Our informant also reported that when he passed by the Lokoja bridge head on Friday, 30 Sept., one Corporal Douglas Yakubu was busy taking bribes from motorists on his colleagues’ behalf.
