‘Keke Marwa’ Union chairman was on Thursday shot dead by a drunk Police corporal

The chairman of Three Wheelers Association of Nigeria, Meiran/Ilepo branch, Mr Dele Oroja was on Thursday night shot dead by a police officer, Corporal Abbey Adekunle.

On realizing what he has done the police officer fled the scene of the incident while the operators of the populous ‘Keke’ in a mob marched to Meiran police station demanding that corporal Adekunle be handed over to them threatening to burn down the station.

These threats were averted by the presence reinforcement from the state command headquarters, led by the commissioner of police, Alhaji Umar Manko, who condemned the act by the Police officer urging the mob to allow the law prevail in the matter.

A shocker came when the police boss claimed that Adekunle was drunk as the time of the incident. Drunk on duty?

He also said the corporal has been arrested and thus taken to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Panti, Yaba and is already being interrogated. Manko promised to hand Adekunle over to a civil court for trial once the interrogations are concluded.

Killings of innocent citizens by Nigeria police officers has since being on the rise. Often, police officers carrying guns loaded bullets are drunk and high on drugs, easily get nervous and shoot residents.

Last month, a drunk police officer fired at the convoy of the deputy governor of Yobe state.
