A Nigeria police officer has been sentenced to death by hanging for killing a 3 year old girl at a checkpoint in Alapere Ketu.

A Lagos high court in Ikeja on Thursday sentenced Mr Ikechukwu Nwabueze an ex corporal of the Nigeria Police Force  to death by hanging for killing a three year old girl, Kafusara Muritala at a checking point close to Mr Biggs Roundabout, Obanle Aro, Alapere Ketu.

The convicted who was alleged to have shot Kafusara on April 5, 2009 while she was in a car that was conveying her parents and her fathers three friends on a journey at said roundabout ran away on realizing the crime committed. Ikechukwu until his trial was a corporal in the Nigeria Police Force.

The ruling proceeded by Justice Olabisi Akinlade, prosecution by Mrs Olabisi Ogungbesan, the Director of Public Prosecution Lagos, four witnesses: the deceased father, Salau Muritala; a police officer, James Adetoye; a pathologist, Professor John Obafunwa and ASP Taminu Atumbi while Ikechukwu was the only witness in his defence.
