Lagos resident expose brutal police extortion tactics

The citizens of Nigeria are not slaves to the NPF! Bribery  extortion and assault by the police officers in Lagos must stop.

Nigerian police force (NPF), especially in Lagos State has turned into something else these days. We the civilians barely have a say.

It is time they are exposed for the monster they are. Most especially the Area ”H” Division at Ogudu, Ojota and SARS at Ijede Ikorodu (all in Lagos state).

They drive around in private cars harassing people (youths in most cases).

Around the noted areas, Nigerian police officers are notorious for stopping people on the road to harass them.

The police search their preys’ pockets as well as their private belongings like mobile phones, especially Blackberry phones.

They usually take their victims to any close by ATM and forcefully have a look at their account balance.

They’ll subsequently threaten to put them (victims) behind bars if a certain amount of money is not released to them.

The police should respect people’s privacy. They must have a court warrant to gain access to a person’s privacy.

A lot of Nigerian youths are being tortured everyday and are falling victims of extortion in the hands of men of the Nigerian Police Force for no just cause.

A lot of people have lost close friends, family and associates due to the illegal activities of our “so called” Nigerian police officers.

The Nigerian Police Force has now been turned into a business venture (by some hungry elements) where-in they make money everyday from their illegal activities on the streets of Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. One will begin to wonder what the the real functions of the Nigerian Police Force?

I urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Commissioner of police and most of all the Governor of Lagos State tackle this issue before it gets out of hand. The police is meant to keep up peace and order in the country and not disorganized our communities and create unrest, sorrow for the citizens of the country.

The police should stop the misuse of their powers. The citizens of Nigeria are not slaves to the NPF! Bribery, extortion and assault by the police officers in Lagos must stop.

This is to formally lodge a complaint
DAY LIGHT ROBBERS ON EKO BRIDGE
We have observed that a stern looking light complexioned policeman (with several black spots on the face) who drives a green jeep with registration number HD863EKY has formed a new racket of arresting people and extorting money all in the name of ensuring people do not ply the BRT route on Eko Bridge at the EXACT point WHERE THE BRIDGE IS DAMAGED towards Apongbon. He immediately barricades the road to stop the car, his accomplices would at once jump into the car of the offender.
It does not make sense to arrest people when they just veer at this juncture of the Damaged Bridge to the right and return back to the middle lane. Leaving that aside, we implore that this issue is taken up seriously; these set of people should be shown the way out of the force. It is obvious they are doing this with the sole aim of extorting money from people. This is daylight robbery!
This same policeman is very notorious on Obalende Bridge descending to Onikan roundabout.
I Implore you take the necessary steps to address this menace, as at this morning people were already taking pictures and videos of him and his gang.

This is a major issue in lagos and the other part of nigeria, this hoodlums has to be stopped, i do not support the movement of the nigerian police force, knowing fully well that they are blood drunk on the little power given to them by the Governor Himself, i would like to take this moment to comment on the harassment of youths in lagos state, most of our youths no longer feel safe, its either your are overdressed without an ID, or you are a suspect for no reason, and this so called police men move around in private cars and when they find a victim, they will go any length to make sure they extort money from them, Huge amount of money to be precised, they will forceful make sure the youth write a falls police statement, accusing himself of a crime he knows nothing about, this must stop!!!!, I urge the IGP, Commissioner of Police and the Governor of the State to do something about it, Peace and rest of mind of all other things nigerian’s are being deprived of shouldn’t be too much to ask.

Community policing in Lagos is very terrible. The police are the criminals. My friend was a victim in Surulere. His offence was that he was overdressed without an ID.
