INCESSANT POLICE MISCONDUCT REPORTED IN OYO

Nigerian police force (NPF), especially in Oyo State has turned into something else these days. We the civilians barely have a say.
It is time they are exposed for the monster they are. Most especially SARS DUGBE, ORITA POLICE STATION, APATA POLICE STATION , BODIJA, IYAGANKU , OLUYOLE, MOKOLA AND FELELE.
Around the noted areas, Nigerian police officers are notorious for stopping people on the road to harass them; They drive around in private cars bullying people (youths in most cases). The police search their preys’ pockets as well as their private belongings like mobile phones, especially Blackberry phones. They usually take their victims to any close by ATM and forcefully have a look at their account balance. After which they will threaten to put them (victims) behind bars if a certain amount of money is not released to them.
I believe an officer is only allowed to gain access to a person’s privacy only when he has a court warrant to do so. These days, court warrants are better imagined than seen with a Nigerian Police Officer.
A lot of Nigerian youths are being tortured everyday and are falling victims of extortion in the hands of men of the Nigerian Police Force for no just cause. A lot of people have lost close friends, family and associates due to the illegal activities of our “so called” Nigerian police officers.
The Nigerian Police Force has now been turned into a business venture (by some hungry elements) where-in they make daily income from their illegal activities on the streets of Oyo, Lagos and other parts of Nigeria. One will begin to wonder what the real functions of the Nigerian Police Force are.
I urge the Inspector General of Police (IGP) and the Commissioner of police and most of all the Governor of Oyo State to tackle this issue before it gets out of hand. The police are meant to maintain peace and order in the country and not disorganized our communities and create unrest and agony for the citizens of the country.
The police should stop the misuse of their powers; they should respect people’s privacy. The citizens of Nigeria are not slaves to the NPF! Bribery, extortion and assault by the police officers in Oyo state must stop.
Thank you
