Imoke Reiterates Need for State Police DailyTrust

Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State has said that except the Nigeria Police Force is completely overhauled and broken into different sub-security groups, including state and community police, the insecurity in parts of the country will not be contained.

Addressing the Nigerian Bar Association yesterday at Tinapa Business Resort in Calabar, Imoke said, “How can this present police succeed when it is the same one saddled with the tasks of policing gangsterism, armed robbery, kidnapping, terrorism, domestic crimes, etc?

The police as it is now needs total reform. It should be broken into segments to tackle different needs as it is done in bigger and far developed societies. We need to tackle insecurity in Nigeria headlong, and to do that effectively, I am re-emphasising the need for community and state police”.
