A Nigerian daily, Punch, said the officer was carrying 29 rounds of live ammunition when he demanded access to a force motorbike at the station in the south-western city of Ibadan. When the vehicle inspection officer refused, the disgruntled cop allegedly fired into the air while his two accomplices grabbed the bike. He was eventually overpowered and detained by other police officers.

The area’s police PR chief is quoted describing the officer’s actions as “unacceptable”.
